Premarital Counseling
Getting married is unlike anything you’ve ever done before.
In addition to preparing your relationship, you’re probably also in the middle of the most intense event-planning you’ve ever been involved with. Being engaged is a whirlwind.
But in the midst of sometimes overwhelming chaos, it’s incredibly important to take time to work on what really matters in this time. Your marriage is much more important than your wedding. At Anthem Church, we have a system of Premarital Counseling that will take you through some of the most important topics to talk through before (and honestly after) your wedding day. Our goal throughout is to point you to Jesus, to help you see that the Gospel is truly what should be the foundation of your marriage, and to give you some sound wisdom gained over the years of marriage between our Mentor Couples and the leadership of Anthem Church.

Although our culture has developed a pattern of premarital counseling being exclusively for engaged couples, we believe that walking through all these issues is even more valuable for dating couples that are headed towards the possibility of marriage, and also newly married couples. If you’re in a relationship that you see there being real marriage potential, we’d love to have you both be a part of Premarital at Anthem.
Our Mentor Couples are all members at Anthem Church who have proven their dedication to Jesus and to each other over their years of marriage, and who have a huge heart for pouring into young relationships.

Premarital through Anthem Church is basically a two-step process.
The first step is that we have each couple take an online assessment called Prepare-Enrich. If you’d like to, you can read more about the test on their website, www.prepare-enrich.com. The assessment costs $35 per couple, which you can pay for via credit card on their website. After each of you completes the assessment, we will send you an email with details and contact information for your Mentor Couples. You will receive your “Couples Report” from Prepare-Enrich at your first night of meeting with a Mentor Couple.
Step two of the system is the actual meetings with your four Mentor Couples. You will be meeting with four Mentor Couples, and each will cover a separate topic (Family Background & Temperament; Roles / Expectations / Spiritual Life; Sexual Intimacy; and Financial Stewardship).
Again, our goal throughout is to point you to Jesus, to help you see that the Gospel is truly what should be the foundation of your marriage, and to give you some sound wisdom gained over the years of marriage between our Mentor Couples and the leadership of Anthem Church.

If you have any questions or are interested in going through Premarital Counseling at Anthem, you can fill out our online contact form, which will give us most of the information we need to get you started. Tricia Hinkle, our administrator, will give you all the details, ask you a few questions and get you set up on Prepare-Enrich.
Because this takes time, we ask that you complete the Prepare-Enrich Assessment at least six months out from your wedding date. In a perfect situation, we’d rather have you wait to set a wedding date until you’ve finished the whole Premarital Counseling program (which is a big reason we’d encourage dating couples to join us in this!!). If you have any questions, please email Tricia at premarital@anthemchurch.org.
